Seventeen students from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT) have been selected to intern with Google Summer of Code 2013 in June.
The Google Summer of Code is a global internship opportunity for students that offers stipends to write code for various open source software projects. Through Google Summer of Code, accepted student applicants are paired with mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. In turn, the participating projects are able to more easily identify and bring in new developers.
This year, 177 mentoring organizations will participate in the programme.
For the same, students get a stipend of $5000. This year 1192 students have been selected worldwide to contribute. Students will now enter the community bonding period where they will get to know their mentors and prepare for the program by reading documentation and familiarizing themselves with their new community before beginning their actual coding next month.
In 2012, DA-IICT topped the list of insitutes from India with 17 students getting selected.
